For Nick on Sean's Birthday

...there you go you crazy person. Now shush!

As for todays other birthday... I don't care who asks -- I'm not wishing DeMcNiro a happy anything until he remembers that acting is not shameless mugging.

but he married Madonna!!
Although (according to police reports) he did shove her head in the oven and turn the gas on.

Poor madonna. He is a c*nt for that.

Aw c'mon, just for one day can't Bobby coast on goodwill for his older, better work like *ahem* some of the actresses you worship?

I love how DeNiro is deemed a shameless mugger and Penn isn't. xD

I actually thought he was calling Penn 'McNiro' at first. Which would be reductive, but not altogether untrue.

I kind of wish that saving-the-world-via-photo-op Sean Penn would go away, and that punching-cameramen-in-the-face Sean Penn would come back.

Hmmm, well I guess I won't ever be wishing Madonna a happy Birthday until she realizes that singing requires VOCAL ability, not barely there whispers.

(Reading the rest of the cover...)

Snoop Dogg had a murder rap? How soon we forget.

john p --touché but who among the actresses worshipped here is mugging as 'phone it in' shamelessly as DeNiro these days?

oh and i fixed the post. it DID read like i was calling Penn McNiro . unintentional amusements for all.

colin --well i was trying to be nice to Nick ;) Penn is still capable of subtle stuff on occassion though. Is deNiro?

I thought Penn was pretty solid and unpushy in 21 Grams (or maybe that was because he shared scenes with screamin' Naomi)

neel isn't that crazy? i was just talking about this with friends the other day. It's actually rather telling that for culture as celebrity obsessed as ours the details have very short shelf lives. I mean... does anyone remember that Uma Thurman was once married to Gary Oldman?

They were?! Wow. I feel really young.

Ooo, I also love that this cover includes that corner bit: The Fall of Apple. Heh. That certainly dates it.

Ah yes, I had forgotten his subdued perf in 21 Grams. That film was such an oddity -- an actor's showcase that amounted to a cinematic nothing.

Michael Parsons said...

He shoud have been nominated for "21 grams" and not "Mystic River"
Shoulda, coulda, woulda

Nate, did you see THE GOOD SHEPHERD? De Niro is still an artistic force.

Meh on Penn. How do you admire somebody with absolutely no social grace or sense of humor? Wake me up when he's over.

M

P.S. His pseudo-liberal, quasi-socialist politics suck, too.
