I'm not even sure what movie that is and I desperately want to see it now.

Maggie Cheung should be in everything, btw.

it's called COMRADES: A LOVE STORY. pretty good but as in any movie wherein Maggie is the lead it functions as Maggie Porn to fans ;)

You mean Comrades: Almost a Love Story, right, Nathaniel? Probably the Maggie Cheung performance most beloved in her native Hong Kong. More Westerners should see it.

I checked both titles and it's nowhere to be found. :(

Brian -- you are correct.

I LOVE this film and Maggie is excellent... as always.

Also, I love all the songs in the film.

The title is Comrades, Almost a Love Story, directed by Peter Chan, released initially in Hong Kong, Taiwan and some Asian countries in 1996.
And I was told it was titled as Chinese Love Story (literally in German)in Germany. And I think it was first screened in Europe at Berlin Int'l Film Festival in 1997 (along with Irma Vep and The Soong Sisters both she stars in, and she was the jury member of BIFF that year). Any genuine cineaste is supposed to see the film.
BTW, Comrades was one of the ten films of 1997 selected by Time magazine.
Inevitably,it's not that easy to find it in the U.S.
