In the Musicals

Since the TONY AWARDS are arriving Sunday (another actor showcase later today) showtunes are playing on a loop in my head. So with that in mind...

Thursday Triple: Movie Musicals

(my hearty apologies to the glorious Singin' in the Rain which I love almost as much as these three but still in copious amounts)

Those are my three favorites movie musicals of all time: West Side Story, The Wizard of Oz and Cabaret. If you had to choose only three, what would yours be?

Dancer in the Dark, Dancer in the Dark and then, probably... Dancer in the Dark.

If only all musicals had Björk and were directed by a crazy genius...

Mary Poppins, Meet Me in St. Louis, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Can't believe no one's mentioned any of those.

Romance & Cigarettes, if it ever gets released, looks like a contender.

Only three? How cruel...

Okay....

1. West Side Story
2. All That Jazz
3. Fiddler On The Roof

Because it's a tradition. And because of our traditions, every one of us knows who he is and what God expects him to do...

Indeed, you cruel man. I have occasionally taught a course on the musical and getting down to 14 was torture enough!

But, if you insist...

1. Singin' in the Rain, because I love this movie, musical or not;
2. Footlight Parade, because I loves me my Busby Berkeley and because Cagney is such a hoot; and
3. A Hard Day's Night, because there is no more chaotic fun.

To me:

-Dancer in the Dark

-My Fair Lady

-Topsy Turvy

I don't know if Topsy Turvy can be considered as a musical but I Loved it.

All That Jazz is pure 100%perfection. Without a doubt, my favourite movie of all time. *sigh* i gush over that movie something shocking.

I might choose Nathaniel's 3, or I might swap Cabaret and/or Wizard of Oz for Dancer in the Dark and/or Moulin Rouge!... with sincere apologies to The Sound of Music. I also need to see All That Jazz, and I need to see Singin' in the Rain again.

ALL THAT JAZZ (though knowing one of the women in the 'show' whom I hate has kind of ruined it for me - I don't ever need to see her nips)

THE BLUES BROTHERS (Is this technically a musical? I think so, as the characters will break into song on occasion)

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (If you haven't seen the original filmed ending, you're missing a real treat)
