Amo a Carmen Maura como un loco desenfrenado!!!!

Everyone who hasn't yet: Go watch "Pepi, Luci, Bom y otras chicas del montón" (the 1st Almodóvar film)... it's not hte best film ever, nor Almodóvar best and definitevely not Maura's best but it's amazing. It's trashy but really really funny.

I have seen that one Fernando (still can't believe the library had that VHS tape.) My sweetie and I laughed at it in a "this is sooo stupid and we shouldn't be laughing - and we wouldn't be laughing in any other context, but here, it's funny." (Especially at the police inspector's wife who gets off on being pissed on and beaten. It shouldn't be funny but in Almodovar's universe, it is because everything else is already so absurd and over the top.)

Aside from that, I LOVE Carmer Maura. The first film I saw her in was "How to be a Woman and Not Die in the Attempt" (US title)

Carmen Maura in one of her best, Oscar-worthy, performances. But of course nobody really knew her in the AMPAS at the time of "Law of Desire"...

I loooove "La ley del deseo". No other film has captured the urge of sexual desire for me as this one does. One of my all time favourite scenes is when Maura sees a man watering/cleaning the streets and asks him to water her ("riégueme, riégueme"). It's one of those movie scenes you always fantasize about reenacting. Never dared to, though, you've got to be Carmen Maura.

She was tops in "Volver!"

yeah, i don't think she'll ever top Law of Desire.

Fernando... i've never seen PEPI, LUC, BOM. Never been able to find it.

I bought the full Almodovar collection from HMV England. It's PAL but I guess that's not a problem.

Speaking of almodovar, where are the reviews/coverage of broken embraces from cannes? Nothing on movieline, variety, etc. Wells covered it, but that's about it ...

What film is that picture from?

i believe it's from LAW OF DESIRE (which is my favorite Almodovar) but i haven't seen it in some time so perhaps it was just a photoshoot round that time.
