Liz Lemon-Green

Today's Must Read: Brian Lynch has uncovered the truth about the brilliant 30 Rock. It's The Muppet Show reborn. Lynch really proves his thesis. No wonder I love the show so much! This has to be the best copy with no quality resolution lost since The Golden Girls shaved off a few decades, moved to New York City and started sipping cosmos.

Good article, I liked the Muppets Show back in the day. I still remember parts of the LL Cool J, Bette Midler and Michelle Pfeiffer episodes. Maybe I should start watching 30 Rock.

I've seen this posted a few times on the Internet now. I don't know, I love 30 Rock and liked The Muppet Show and Muppets when I was little, but I think a lot of it was a reach.

So they've referenced the Muppets a couple times, along with thousands of other pop culture items. But ooh, Liz used a voice ONCE that vaguely sounded like Kermit the Frog in a movie 20 years ago! lol I also do not really see ANY similarity between Tracy Jordan and Gonzo beyond "they're both weird in their own ways." And uh, if Jack is suddenly an amalgam of like, six different characters, I think that means he's actually not a character at all. The final five 'arguments' regarding the rest of the cast are basically "Hey, these guys look vaguely reminiscent of other Muppets," with nothing to do with character or personality. And every show under the sun has "Very
Special Guest Stars." Will & Grace was far guiltier of it than 30 Rock.

Sorry, not to be a downer lol as I know the article isn't a seriousy topic...I've just heard some of friends raving about it and my only thought is..."Really?" I don't get it. I feel like the author came up with an interesting idea and tried really hard to write an article about it.

It's not a reach at all. There was even that episode where we saw life through Kevin's eyes, and how did he see it? Everybody was a Muppet!

They referenced the comic strip Cathy too a couple times. ZOMG, this show is EXACTLY LIKE CATHY@#@!#!#@!#

oh come on you guys. the Miss Piggy/Jena think is spot on (the self absorbed blonde diva "star") the Liz /Kermit awkward frazzled host of variety show... Kenneth as Scooter

i just don't see how those are stretches ;) i thought it was a fun article.

No, I agreed they had a couple spot-on inferences. It was interesting. I just don't think that "Oh, Cerie looks vaguely like Janice because they're both blonde" really means anything. Like they took a couple good points (Jenna and Miss Piggy) and added a whole lot of filler to make the thesis more convincing. There may be Muppet inspiration but it's not like it's live-action remake or something. That's all I meant. I did find it entertaining.

That's hysterical. Though i must argue one point. He said that the only difference between Tina Fey and Kermit is their genitalia. Kermit the Frogs genitals would be a cloaca, which in frogs is one opening that serves as urinary track, anus and genitalia! I don't know, would you call that a Vaganus!?

This makes Kermit's and Tina's much closer than you might have first suspected!

Wasn't THE MUPPET SHOW a puppet version of LAUGH IN?! Would that make Jane a copy of Miss Piggy who is a copy of Goldie Hawn!?
