Thrilled to see Richard Jenkins included, who may just be my favorite character actor at the moment. Jamie Bell and Donald Sutherland are also great additions...

but I hated - hated - Andy Lau's performance in House of Flying Daggers.

Also glad to see Richard Jenkins included... he gave an awesome performance in North Country ( the only good thing about that movie ).

I am ridiculously crazy about Billy Elliot. So I am ridiculously happy to see him make your list, albeit ninety or so spaces too low. :-)

You know, what strikes me most is how many of these men I take for granted. Take Richard Jenkins, for instance. I've seen ALL the films you mention, yet, when I caught his excellent perf in North Country, my first thought was "where the hell did this guy come from?!"

Shame on me.

P.S. I have no idea who'll hit the number one spot on this list. Kidman was obvious. But what of the men? Objectively speaking, I would venture Russell Crowe, but...I doubt Nathaniel would dub the "most annoying celebrity of 2005" also the "best actor of the aughts". So...Jude Law??

Maybe he'll go to a great supporting actor like Peter Sarsgaard? I could see Viggo or Johnny Depp or Jim Carrey doing well also.

It's weird how I almost knew the top 10 of the Actresses, but I'm blind with the men.

Ian McKellen? Ewan McGregor? Hayden Christensen for anything that isn't Star Wars related?

I am guessing Johnny Depp for the top spot for Nat's list, my top 5 would be :

1. Jake Gyllenhal
2. Johnny Depp
3. Bill Murray
4. Heath Ledger
5. Leonardo Dicaprio

Jude Law and Gael Garcia Bernal will undoubtedly be in the top 5. Depp and Ewan probably won't be far behind... Peter Saarsgard might end up 2nd the way Patty Clarkson did... for #1, my money's on Law, just based on Nat's film bitch awards this decade. He's done as well as Kidman:

supporting nominee 2001
supporting honorable mention 2002
lead nominee 2003
supporting winner 2004

...as I recall.

Crowe's a weird case, cause I think 2000 is right about when Nat started hating him. He may not make the list at all... but that wouldn't really be fair, would it?

Sigh. I hated pretty much everything about "House of Flying Daggers" (and I loved "Hero"...)

I thought Crowe was fabulous in "Master and Commander", if anything. Hey, if Renee Zellweger could do it... ;)

I like Russel Crowe, but I always thought his two most lauded performances (A Beautiful Mind and Gladiator) were very much over-rated. He was great in The Insider, probably his best performance to date.

I heart Richard Jenkins...he always brings life to whatever he is in (even if his part is tiny...which it usually is...)

Johnny Depp crossed my mind, too, but what, aside from Pirates of the Caribbean (and voice work in Corpse Bride), makes him so worthy in "the aughts"? Chocolat? Finding Neverland? Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Secret Window? He seems more a Julianne (one piece of brilliance) than a Nicole (consistently interesting).

Dusty, I found him to be great in Finding Neverland and The Libertine (which I think some people hated) but from looking at Nat's pop bitch awards as pointed out, I am guessing I was wrong with my prediction and agree that it looks like Jude will get it.

Yeah, I actually think Jude has it pretty much sewn up. Added bonus for the fact that Nat ACTUALLY loves him (and isn't just "in awe of him" like Nicole) and finds him amazingly beautiful and hot.

I'm curious to see, though, where Ewan, Depp, Pete Sarsgaard, Sir Ian, Christian Bale, Gael Garcia, Tom Wilkinson, and Jim Broadbent end up... I'm thinking all will hit the top ten.

Oh, and Heath and Jake, of course... they could be very very high based on 2005.

That's already more than 10... this will be mighty competitive.

Ooh, Hugh Jackman should hit top 20 also, though I don't think he's a threat for top 10.

When I read "Matthieu" and "John Michael" in the link I thought it was going to be Matthieu Kassovitz and John Michael Mitchell or whatever that crazy dude's name is.

I love me some Kassovitz though, but he's not on there. I wonder if my other French master is going to be on there. I, of course, speak of Vincent Cassell. I hope for my three men - Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and Vincent Cassell. Those three are welcome in my abode anytime. Preferably at the same time. :)

Here's a suggestion for #1: George Clooney.
