Bringing up 'Bringing Up Baby'

It's Katharine Hepburn's birthday today. She would have been 99. This is my favorite performance of hers:

Which is yours?

I love her in Alice Adams. Very poignant and moving.

"Bringing Up Baby" was my first exposure to Katharine Hepburn, and it still holds a special place in my heart. How could this woman have ever been considered box office poison? For early Hepburn this is the best. Highly underrated still, I think, because everyone appreciates "The Philadelphia Story" more as more sophisticated. Whatever! "The Lion in Winter" for later Kate. She and Peter O'Toole tear up the screen and show what sophistication is all about (even if they are 12th century barbarians!). I could watch it over and over. 99 years. Wow.

Certainly my favorite performer, male or female, ever. I'm going to say that "The Philadelphia Story" is my favorite KH perf, but "Bringing Up Baby," "Long Day's Journey Into Night," and "The Lion in Winter" are all very close behind. It's so amazing to see what an extraordinary career she had over *62* years. I certainly can't see any of today's starlets with that type of longevity.

Wow, a tough call, but I hold a special place in my heart for her in "Summertime".

I love her in "The Lion in Winter"; all the scheming, the portrayal of her relatonship with Peter O'Toole and her children is really magnificent (even thoguh I did not like Anthony Hopkins). But the performance that truly has a very special place in my heart is her Jo in "Little Women". As a child, I loved the novel; and when I saw the movie I loved Jo even more.

Philadelphia Story for the scenes where she gets drunk with Jimmy Stewart, and the next morning's hangover, but the best is Lion in Winter. When she tells Peter O'Toole that she slept with his father, just to get him enraged, that is her finest moment.

I think Bringing Up Baby would probably be my favourite too, but there's something to be said for Philadelphia Story, The Lion in Winter, Little Women and Alice Adams. The woman was genius, easily one of the great screen actresses - if I had to pick my favourite, it would be between her and Barbara Stanwyck.

I've barely seen any Katherine unfortunately. I just haven't had the chance.

However, one of very few I have seen was On Goldon Pond and I thought she was horrible. And when I think of it I think back to Magda Szubanski's comedy sketch that ripped it to pieces. THE LOONS!!!!!
