Writers & Producers Guild Nominees

Producers Guild Nominees
BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN / CAPOTE / CRASH / GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK. / WALK THE LINE

* very good news for Capote & Crash. very bad news for Cinderella Man & Munich. Since I prefer Capote (a lot) and Crash (slightly) I'm down with that. Though of course I really wish I'd seen A History of Violence here.

Writers Guild Nominees
Adapted
BROKEBACK, CAPOTE, THE CONSTANT GARDENER, A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE, and SYRIANA
Original
CINDERELLA MAN, CRASH, THE 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN, GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK, THE SQUID AND THE WHALE

* good news for Crash (again) --I don't think I was so dumb to have it predicted for awhile now despite many doubters. And another major blow to Munich. I was Munich's only real doubter for months. Other boosted films here: Constant Gardener, Cinderella Man, and Syriana (which I think will also score at SAG tomorrow)

Overall biggest gainer today:(tie) CRASH & CAPOTE
Overall biggest stumbler: MUNICH (Runners up: KING KONG & MATCH POINT)
Slow and Steady wins the race: BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK

I still think "Match Point" gets Screenplay and Director nods, although Best Picture is looking a little shadier. As much as I loved "Capote," it just would seem odd to be in the Best Picture lineup.

"Bullets Over Broadway" was mostly passed over by the Globes, getting a WGA nod and SAG nods for Chazz and Dianne.

Well the 40 Year Old Virgin thing is not so shocking (a la Mean Girls) but I'm surprised they dissed Match Point for Cinderella Man AND that. You'd think they'dve at least chucked the former.

Yay 40 Year Old Virgin.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin is totally underrated as a respectable comedy. Great work, WGA!

anthony -agreed on matchpoint. The Academy has always loved Woody more than the precursors have.

with this WGA nod, I don't think it's inconceivable that aHoV could see a director/screenplay/supporting/supporting foursome... and from there, best picture could be possible if unlikely, especially with Munich, Kong, and Match Point all floundering.

I still think the PGA made boooring choices, though at least they shaked things up a bit.

*OK overview from today's action in my opinion...

-Brokeback, Good Night and Good Luck and (i wish it werent true) Walk the Line look like locks as long as one of the three doesnt get shut out of the DGA...then things will get real messy.

-Crash and Capote are next in line as of now for the fifth spot. Capote looks strong, where Crash looks more like this PGA was just a Im sorry nobody else likes you. I do not see both of these films getting a DGA nomination I dont even think one of them can, but whichever one does then it will most definatly become a lock.

-Next Tier...Munich, King Kong, The Constant Gardner, A History of Violence....None of these films are dead, but two i do not believe will get nominated. Its gonna be one from here and then Crash or Capote. Munich is NOT dead, such a great film cannot be considered dead...people have mistaken its length and its ending as a negative. I really loved it. It is not dead, the DGA loves Speilburg and now is not the time for gods sake for them to stop. PLEASE DGA nominate Speilburg to give this film a chance!

What I believe will be best picture as of right now-

1.)Brokeback Mountain...locked in
2.)Good Night and Good Luck...locked in
3.)Walk the Line...I wish it wasnt
4.)Capote...getting a DGA
5.)Munich...getting a DGA

What the Best Picture should be-
(In other words my top five as of right now, still got to see gardner, brokeback and match point)

1.)A History Violence
2.)Good Night and Good Luck
3.)Munich
4.)Capote
5.)Syriana

*IF CRONENBERG GETS A DGA NOMINATION TOMORROW WILL BE THE HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE!
PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF MOVIES LET THE DGA TOMORROW GO AS FOLLOWS...

-George Clooney
-Steven Speilburg
-David Cronenberg
-Bennet Miller
-Ang Lee

lol, why no Cronenberg in that top 5 chaz?

Anyway.

PGA - I correctly got 4/5. I had King Kong instead of Capote

WGA - I got 4/5 for adapted. I had Pride & Prejudice instead of Syriana.

In original I got 3/5. I had Match Point instead of Cinderella Man and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang instead of The 40-Year-Old Virgin. I was sorta close in their thinking, but I went with the nudge nudge wink wink Hollywood buddy comedy instead of risque toilet humour of Virgin. (that wasn't a dig at Virgin, I haven't even seen it)
