Billy. Benicio. Bob. Hugh. Jack. Ethan. etc...

New editions to the "Top 100 Actors of the Aughts" Countdown
Presenting #60 through #51

Discuss here in the comments. And vote on the poll (NEW!) from which the alternate "Readers Ranking" is derived. You'll notice that the top two vote getters from the last poll are in the mix too given their substantially high percentage of votes in the first round. The Top 50 begins soon. Are you quivering w/ anticipation?

Completely quivering.

And I voted for Bana, based on Troy and Chopper. Thought he should have been nommed for Troy - great performance in a comparatively sucky movie.

Voted for Crudup in the readers poll based on his performance in Stage Beauty.

Yeah, you should see Bad Santa. The sheer shock value is worth whatever you'd pay to rent it, and then some. And Billy Bob is appropriately surly and minimalist.

Also, I can't believe Orlando Bloom is going to be higher than all of these. He irks me. He seems like just another Hollywood pretty boy who just happened to find himself in some enormously popular and well-regarded films at the beginning of his career. I see no talent other than the ability to rid e horses and be pretty.

And why have you not seen anything else of Hugh's? At least see Kate & Leopold... he is adorable in it even though the film is kind of terrible.

i wish you'd see chopper - although it's the male version of the pretty actor going ugly syndrome you're not so fond of, bana would surely move way up your chart after you saw his performance.

i hate-hate-hated bad santa, even more than i hate xmas.

Can I just say I honestly thought Jim Carrey would place higher? I was a little shocked to see him #51. However, I eagerly look forward to seeing how you rank them (since I how you would rank them)

On Eric Bana, yeah, Chopper could indeed make you a bit queasy, but it's also a really good movie with a fantastic look and great acting (including a girl called Kate Beahan who was in Flightplan - you guys stole another one of ours. grrr)

He DID uglify himself but it doesn't seem as annoying as someone like Halle because he was never seen as HOT (believe it or not). His "Full Frontal" days weren't exactly steaming the screens and The Castle he plays a dimwit, so...

Hugh... well, we all know my place with Hugh. That fact that his birthday is one day before mine is fate! And it appears that you will be in the cinema with Hugh FOUR times this upcoming year. X-Men 3, Scoop, The Prestige and The Fountain. The last three of which are in my top 20 anticipated titles. YAY.

The Man Who Wasn't There is Billy Bob's best perf too, i think. But I haven't seen Sling Blade, so...

I must say I am really looking forward to hearing ANY rhyme or reason to placing Orlando Bloom so high up the list. He's got, what? Lord of the Rings? The rest is AWFUL. I gave Troy and Elizabethtown D+ and D respectively, and Kingdom of Heaven a C-.

Oh, btw, in terms of acting I don't feel particularly strong about any of the possibilities in the poll. None really scream out at me as being consistently excellent in great films.

I HATE PAUL GIAMATTI

Glenn, Hugh's birthday is one day before yours? Meryl Streep's birthday is one day before mine. Aaaahh...

Loved "Bad Santa". BBT's best performance, i think--although made more realistic by being actually drunk most of the time. Wish i was at Ebert's Overlooked Fest to see Zwigoff's "Even Badder Santa" cut. I hear that the scenes between John Ritter and Bernie Mac were shot later by a different director at the studio's request. Did anyone else hear that? They definitely seem like they are from a different movie.

I think this is Hugh's year to prove himself - if The Fountain doesn't do it for me, then I give up on him. Give up! But then, I sat through the monstrosity of Van Helsing in the theater. Shudder.

Bob Balaban is always in my office building, I've ridden the elevator with him a bunch of times... he's tiny.

My boyfriend is in love with Billy Crudup... I just don't get it. Though I was reminded, by watching Shopgirl the other day, how much I, against all my best instincts, always end up liking Claire Danes, so I'm willing to give him slight leeway with regards to DUMPING HIS AWESOME PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND. Cuz Claire's cool.

Eric Bana... is it wrong that I just kept wanting him to be pretty again while watching Chopper? Blah blah acting blah. Pretty! Pretty Bana!

it's never wrong to want pretty people to stay pretty.
Pretty Pride!

less handsome actors and actresses need roles too.

That's SO true.

And Adam, Hugh is Oct 12, I'm Oct 13. it's magic.

While Meryl is the better actor, clearly Hugh would be the hotter pick-up, non?
